Laying Your Driveway

This page will give you some idea of what is involved when we lay your driveway. The entire process takes no more than 3 days and we endeavour to minimise the disruption to you and your family during the work.

Step 1
The ground is excavated and the area to be paved is rolled ready for lining.
Step 2
The area is lined with a geotextile (exfiltration system) or a geomembrane (tanked system) material.
Step 3
The required thickness of aggregate roadbase is rolled onto the area to achieve a flat surface which is 110mm below the finished surface.
Step 4
The surface of the roadbase is covered with another layer of geotextile material.
Step 5
Another coarse aggregate is spread over the area and is screed to an uncompacted thickness so that the clay paviors will sit approximately 15mm above the finished level before compacting.
Step 6
Starting from a straight edge the paviors are layed out in the required pattern. We always select our paviors from a number of packs at a time to minimise any colour banding that might occur.
Step 7
The paviors are cut using a diamond edged saw blade to allow the edge blocks to be added.
Step 8
Grit is brushed into the joints between the paviors
Step 9
Using a plate compactor on the surface of the drive means that the paviors are compacted down towards the required level. More grit is brushed into the joints and the process is repeated several times until the correct level is achieved.
Step 10
The joints are topped up with grit and finally brushed off to leave a fantastic ecofriendly driveway.
