The Hydrosmart System

Traditionally no limitations have been placed on the type or the extent of hard, impervious surface materials used in the laying of driveways. With the new legislation this will change and a greater awareness of environmental matters has forced designers and builders to seek 'greener' solutions. Permeable paving replicates the natural drainage that would have occurred if the paving was not there and are strong enough to receive the heaviest vehicles without breaking up.

Permeable paving allows surface water to pass through the surface rather than running off it as would normally be the case. The structure and the materials used are selected with this in mind and depending on the ground conditions a fully 'tanked system' or 'exfiltration system' can be used.

Tanked Systems

In tanked systems, water is temporarily held in a reservoir structure formed with an impervious plastic membrane. Retained water can then be discharged through a small diameter pipe at a safe rate into the existing drainage system.

Exfiltration Systems

In exfiltration systems, the plastic membrane is replaced with a geotextile material that allows retained water to pass directly under the paving to replenish ground water levels. Exfiltration systems should only be used where there was previously a similar surface such as gravel or grass.

The Hydrosmart Clay Paving System

EDC use the new Hydrosmart clay paving system that provides the best alternative to the ubiquitous concrete driveways. Our Hydrosmart systems provide an attractive highly permeable system that allows you to have a paved driveway without requiring planning permission.
