The Benefits of Clay

Clay blocks are more than just eco-friendly

By now you will have seen that the clay blocks that Eco Driveway Company uses are the only ecofriendly method for paving your drive. However you may not have realised that there are 2 other very good reasons for choosing clay above a normal concrete block system.

Clay blocks are the same colour throughout the block and so what this means is that when one of the following occurs (and it will at some point if you use a concrete block) you do not need to try and match a new batch of blocks to your existing path.

1. Over time the colour of concrete blocks will fade as they are worn away by the wear and tear caused by your car or simply because of the weather itself.

With concrete blocks you will simply have to put up with a less than attractive driveway until you can afford to replace the driveway and start again. However, If you had used clay blocks this would not have happened because as the blocks are worn and the top layer is taken off, the rest of the block is exactly the same colour throughout. Therefore your driveway always looks like it's just been laid.

2. Cars (especially older models) have a tendency to leak oil, nothing largescale but just those little spots on the driveway that occur over time

You don't notice them at first and then over time they get bigger and bigger until you cannot ignore them anymore. With a traditional concrete drive you could try some oil remover and hope that if it's powerful enough to remove the oil stain it's not too powerful that it removes the colour of the block as well. When that fails (or makes it worse) you may consider taking out the stained block and replacing it with a brand new one from the box of spares that you keep in the garage.

If you had a clay block driveway then all you would need to do is to simply take out the stained block and turn it over. Remember that clay blocks are the same colour throughout so it doesn't matter which way around they are. You can repeat this for all the blocks in your driveway so you don't need to keep a box of spares in the garage anymore.
